Objective Distortions

Objective Distortions is an ongoing project. While participating in an artist residency in Cimelice Castle near Prague, I started to question photography by manipulating the image with lenses made from recycled water bottles. The resulting images are distorted photographs, which I interpret as cultural signs that cause the viewer to challenge the common assumption of the photograph as a recording document and interact with it as a more fluid artifact. These lenses act as metaphorical eyes; engaging and pointing the viewer to a world infused with ideas despite the lack of documentary truth. Objective Distortions are a continuation of my exploration of the sculptural relationship between image and object and how sewing and handmade lenses leave my personal imprint on the work.
